My name is Stephen Proctor.

Experience Designer. Projection Artist. Visual Liturgist.

& a 7 on the Enneagram.

My name is Stephen. But a lot of my friends call me by my last name, "Proctor." You can call me whatever you want. =)

When people ask me what I do, I tell them that it's kind of like PowerPoint on crack. That's the simplest (& funniest) answer I've come up with so far.

You see, I like to project on things. Sometimes I project lyrics on screens while people sing, & sometimes I project onto musicians while they sing. And once in a while, I like to project into thick, smoky air while no one sings!

I get to do this with a lot of really fun & artistic folks. But I'm not gonna go all "Nashville" on you & tell you who. I used to do that sort of thing. I'm told it's what you do when you want to grow your "platform" & "influence" – but that whole game wears me out. You're not gonna find that sort of hustle on my site. Sorry. ;-)

Speaking of Nashville, that's where I live. I own a little house in da 'hood that I just remodeled (& no, it's not filled to the brim with projectors... I don't like to bring work home with me.)

Speaking of work, I'm a part of this amazing co-work space called WELD – where I'm surrounded by a ton of creative friends & a ton of white walls (which sometimes I fill with projection.)

But it seems like I'm hardly ever here because I love to travel. Like a lot. Most of it’s for work, but because I’m obsessed with accruing airline miles, I get to go to a few other places, usually far off & distant lands like New Zealand. I’m a little addicted to adventure. But this weakness has somehow randomly led to me co-owning an adventure tourism business in Hawaii. Crazy, I know.

When I AM back home in Nashville, I contribute to a few other projects that are much bigger than me.

One of these is a beautiful, messy collective of composers, musicians & visual artists called “The Radial Conservatory.” We love to create immersive worlds of light & sound using neoclassical music & by projecting imagery into thick, smoky air while no one sings. It’s a really cool experience that we hope to share with the world more & more.

Another beautiful, messy collective I’m a part of is a group of folks who’ve gone through quite the spiritual journey & who’ve planted a church called Luminous Anglican Parish. We’re a very simple church, rooted in the Anglican Way – a Celtic Tradition of Christianity that’s been handed down to us by centuries of humble & meek followers of Christ. And like my living room, it’s actually not filled to the brim with cool projection. But we do love art, & we love how the Liturgy leads us to pray for the world & to commune at the Table.

I could go on & on about this, which I actually do in my podcast, simply titled – ILLUMINATE. Here I love to interview friends about their own spiritual journeys & how their stories shine a light on the world of art, liturgy & worship. If you’re into that sort of thing, I invite you to tune in to the conversation!

Well, that about wraps it up… for now at least. Once the new visual media company I’m working on launches, I’ll fill you in. And once I’m married & have kids, I’m sure I won’t shut up about them. =) But for now, this will have to do.

If you want to follow me on all the socials, you’ll see those buttons below. And if you want to connect #IRL, then check out my schedule of events. Or just swing by WELD if you’re ever in Nashville on a day I’m here, & I’ll treat you to some fresh pour-over coffee – or whatever we have on tap (if your church hasn’t forced you to sign some awful contract banning such wonderful things.)
